Quick answers first. Still stuck? Write to us — a real person replies.
One place for rooms, PGs, flats and flatmates: people offering a room, a PG bed or a whole home, and people looking for one — or looking for someone to share with.
You can browse without an account. To contact someone you sign in, and messaging opens only once they accept your request.
Yes. Browsing, posting listings, sending requests and messaging are all free.
No. Roomats is for owners, tenants and flatmates dealing directly. Broker accounts aren't allowed, and we look for patterns that suggest broker activity — a person on our team reviews before anything is removed.
If someone asks you for a brokerage fee, please report them.
Community guidelines →Three ways, all to the same account: a code sent to your mobile number, Google, or an email and password. You can add the others later in Settings → Sign-in methods.
You choose, answer by answer, on your profile: all members, people you've connected with (anyone you share a conversation with), or only you. Until you choose, your connections see them — except smoking, drinking, food, age and gender, which start as only you.
“In common with you” only ever uses answers the other person may see, and nothing about your lifestyle is on public pages.
Choose who sees what →After you and someone have each sent 10 or more messages, if you both kept the same answer to yourselves, Roomats asks you both: “Do you want to reveal your secret?” We never say which answer.
Nothing is shown unless you both tap Reveal — then only to each other. Tap “Keep it secret” and we won't ask again in that chat. You can turn secret match off in Settings → Privacy.
Privacy settings →A verified mobile number is needed before you contact anyone, whichever way you signed in. It keeps fake and throwaway accounts out. Your number is never shown to anyone unless you choose to share it in a conversation.
Phone codes currently work for Indian (+91) numbers. In Canada, confirming your email address does instead — we'll ask for that when you need it.
Verify your phone →Go to Profile → Verification and upload an ID document. A person on our team checks it; once approved, the badge shows on your profile and listings. The document itself is never shown to other members.
Verification →Settings → Notifications: turn push on for this device, add an email, and choose what you hear about on each — requests, messages, listings, the daily new-places summary, tips and reminders.
Notification settings →Settings → Your data → Delete account. You're signed out everywhere, your profile and listings are removed, and you appear as “Deleted member” in other people's chats. You can download your data first from the same page.
Can't sign in any more? Contact us from this page and we'll help.
What we keep, and for how long →When you sign up, tell us what you're after and where — we post it for you, and a banner at the top reminds you to add your preferences and photos. Any time after, tap Create to post something else: pick what you're offering or looking for, add the area, rent and details, and publish. Listings with a few clear photos get far more interest.
Create a listing →To keep the marketplace current, a listing that's been live for 45 days asks you whether it's still available. Tap “Keep it live” and it stays up for another 45 days. If nobody answers, it's hidden 7 days later — you can renew it any time after that.
Open your listing: the “Your listing” card has Pause (hidden until you restore it) and Remove. Pause is best if the room is taken for now; remove if it's gone for good.
Tap the heart on any listing — in search results or on the listing itself — and it's added to Saved, on every device you sign in on. On the Saved page, Compare puts them side by side: rent, share per person, area, availability and the key details.
If the owner lowers the rent on something you saved, we'll let you know.
Saved listings →Yes. Search with the area and budget you want, then tap “Save search”. Once a day, if anything new matches, you get one alert — in the app, and by push or email if you've turned those on. Manage or remove saved searches under Saved searches.
Saved searches →How many times your listing was opened in the last 7 days — by visitors, not you, and not search engines. It's a count of views, not people: we don't track who looked.
On a listing or profile, tap Connect to send a request. When the other person accepts, a conversation opens for both of you. Nobody gets your number by default.
Requests nobody answers close after 14 days, so you're not left waiting. You can send a new one any time. If a request is waiting on you, we'll remind you 3 days before it closes.
In your chat, tap the calendar button next to the message box and pick a day and time (add a note if it helps). The other person can confirm it, decline it, or suggest another time. Once it's confirmed you can add it to your calendar, and you'll both get a reminder before it.
Visit in daylight if you can, tell a friend where you're going, and never pay a deposit or “token amount” before you've seen the place.
Once a request about a room or home is accepted and you've both written in the chat, you can review each other from that chat — one to five stars and a few words about how it went.
Your review stays hidden until the other person writes theirs (then both appear together), or for 14 days. Reviews show on profiles to signed-in members; an average appears from 3 reviews. The person reviewed can reply once, you can take your own review down, and anyone can report one that breaks the rules.
The rules for reviews →Visit before paying anything — never send a deposit or “token amount” for a place you haven't seen. Keep conversations on Roomats until you trust the other person, meet in daylight, and tell a friend where you're going.
Be wary of rent far below the area's usual, pressure to decide fast, or requests to pay outside a proper agreement.
Use Report on any listing, profile or message — a person on our team reviews it. Block stops someone from contacting you or seeing your posts. For a safety concern about a specific person or listing, Report is the fastest way to reach us.
Anyone can see listings with their area, rent and availability. Your exact address is shared only if you choose to. Signed-in members see more of a profile; your phone number and email are never shown unless you share them in a conversation.
Privacy Policy →Yes — Settings → Your data → Download my data gives you everything in one file.
Tell us what's going on and we'll get back to you by email. For a problem with a specific person or listing, use Report on it — that reaches our safety team fastest.
